Madeline Fine
While putting herself through UMassBoston and MassArt, she worked full-time at Mass. Mental Health and part-time MGH. She encountered much despair in the patient population she worked with. Being a maker helped her cope with the stress.
In 1971 Madeline’s jewelry career was set in motion. While walking to UMass classes in downtown Boston, she walked pon Newbury St. past silversmith John Lewis. She fell in love with some jewelry that she couldn't afford. A spark was struck. Her studies at MassArt began moving her in the direction of a lifetime. Metalwork called to her.
Her love of texture, nature, and craftsmanship is evident in her work. She sometimes juxtaposes colors and textures to achieve the desired result. Contrast. Wearable art that says “See me? Do I remind you of something?” Her designs are gently, eye-catching jewelry, subtly bold.
Wearability and durability are tantamount. Madeline engineers lightness in her jewelry. She works to keep the earrings easy on the ears. They are also designed to be fun, whimsical, and evocative.
